Extreme Weather

This year, Costa Rica is experiencing the effects of an El Niño, particularly in the North. With the El Niño, they have had a slight increase in temperature, throughout this area, and have not experienced the same amount of rainfall as normal. They experienced 50% less rain this January, which makes this one of the driest January’s recorded in the province of Limon. The lack of rain and the warm temperature are beginning to have an effect on their agriculture, due to all the dry land.

Due to this event, they have begun water restrictions in certain areas. Along with these restrictions, they have received money from the National Emergency Commission, to help with any damages. Along with these funds to help pay for the damages, the Costa Rican government created the Permanent Attention Committee to monitor and evaluate the impacts of these events.

  1. Hi Diana! I liked your post! It was very concise and easy to read and understand. I felt like you boiled down the information to give your reader exactly what was necessary and that's exactly what I got out of it! The fact that Costa Rica is suffering the consequenses of El Nino is interesting to local readers, too, as we've experienced the storm to a degree. Great job!

  3. Thank you for your post Diana! I know that Costa Rica is very dependent on their tourism and agriculture industry so I'm sure that it is very important to keep an eye on the situation and keep it under control.

  4. I really like your post blog. An agriculture is very important for every country have or needs the crops for their foods and people need the crop to grow by unfortunately how the drought place. Government should keep look out on the farm. As well to my country Bolivia have the same issues about an agriculture, but it’s different topic about it. As Bolivian people have their own agriculture and impact from the storms to the farm that Bolivian people loss their farm as damaged. I was considering how Costa Rica people concern their crops and have the dry land.

  5. Hello Diana, great post seems like extreme weather hasn't affected costa rica too much from what you've stated but i think the small changes will eventually develop to greater problems. I think it was great that you also stated what they are doing to fix these problems and that there is restrictions being placed.
